The AGS Christmas Party just happened again. Damn it was good fun.
I'd kind of lost sight of the fact that it's not the plot which matters, it's playing the character you want within the plot. I'd also not put in quite enough work on my character (read: 20 mins at work). but frankly, put any group of roleplayers with the remit "Just be someone you've always wanted to be" into a room together and you have fun. 'Specially if one of them is playing a Vorlon and keeps walking into walls.
We (me, DT and TL) were The Church of the Second Coming of the Great Tentacular God of a Thousand Forms (Hufflepuff Chapter), and we frankly had a ball just being a sort of cross between Billy Bunter and the World's Most Ineffective Cultists. Also discovered that, due to a quirk in the plot, guns didn't work, but my wand was still a hefty stick, so I got to beat up the gun bunny. Poor fellow.
Ate far too much sugar, tried to raise the dead, and got the interdimensional gateway out of Bertie's bottom. Result.
Then spent Sunday baking, sweet making and generally being disgustingly domestic. Bliss. We now have more sweets, biscuits and flavoured alcohol than I can lift.
Sunday night we watched the extended version of Return of the King. Wow. Just...wow. Not only does the plot make more sense, the film is better paced, despite being 48 minutes longer. Once more, the addition of lots of nice little bits out of the book makes the stuff that doesn't happen in the book less glaring. And I was in floods of tears - floods - when Eomer found Eowyn on the battlefield. Wonderful. Can't wait to view the extras and bore all my friends with trivia ;o)
